Welcome Lifelong Learners!

“Curiosity is one of the permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous intellect.”― Samuel Johnson, The Rambler

It is with pleasure that I’m posting an inaugural blog entry on this newly-minted website dedicated to lifelong learning, particularly lifelong learning that has cultural and language components.

Members of the JALT LLL-SIG will have an opportunity to interact with each other on this blog and SIG events will be posted here as well. To post messages on the blog, and to comment on them, it will be necessary for you to be registered on the website as “contributors.” Looking forward to lively discussions.

In this initial blog entry I would like to introduce you to a new book that has just come out, A Passion for Japan: A Collection of Personal Narratives, edited by John Rucynski, and with chapters by 31 contributors covering all aspects of Japanese culture and life in Japan.

The subjects of the chapters range from being part of a “community of practice” through JALT, to life in a “zero waste” village, and such Japanese arts as shodo and wadaiko. One of our recent LLL-SIG forum speakers, Steve McCarty, wrote one of the chapters on “Discovering Japanese Fusion of Religions on the Pilgrimage Island of Shikoku.”

You can view a flyer that lists each of the chapters, and its corresponding author, at:
